When BabyBjörn was started in 1961, the founder, Björn Jakobson, had a clear business concept:
“To make life easier for families with small children by developing safe and innovative products of the highest quality for children up to three years.”
This year marks exactly 50 years since they started. BabyBjörn remains a Swedish family company, but today their products can be found all over the world, and the original business concept has stood the test of time, just like the quality of their products.
Trends have come and gone, but small children’s need for security and closeness has not changed. To date, more than 30 million children have been carried by their mothers and fathers in BABYBJÖRN baby carriers. Parent had put great faith in them, and they are incredibly proud that they have been able to contribute to bringing parents and children closer to one another – today, as much as when they first began.
Babysitting can have unexpected consequences for a young student. In Björn Jakobson’s case, it became the impetus for his life’s work, the company BabyBjörn AB. During a trip to the USA in the beginning of the 1960s, a babysitter caught Björn’s eye and he brought it back for his nephew, Nils, who he often babysat. Nils immediately liked the babysitter. So much so, that he actually used it until he was a year old. Since babysitters could not be purchased in Sweden at the time, Björn started a company with his sister-in-law Elsa (Nils's mom) to manufacture a Swedish equivalent. In Gnosjö, he found a supplier who could make the frame, while the seat was made from store-bought scraps of fabric. Production began, but sales were pitiful. Reviews were very positive, however, which resulted in several articles in Swedish dailies. Finally, demand picked up.
The babysitter became a hit in Sweden, as well as in the rest of Europe. In time, it also became a bestseller in the USA. The next big step in the company’s history came at the beginning of the 1970s. New research from Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, showed that early attachment and closeness to their parents plays a vital role for the continued development of newborns. Pediatricians all over the world quickly adopted this idea. At Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Dr. John Lind was one of the first to inform new parents how important physical contact is for creating an emotional bond between babies and their parents.
Björn Jakobson, who now had three small children of his own, was inspired by pediatricians’ hopes that parents would carry their children close to their bodies. He developed a baby carrier that made it possible for parents to have this important physical contact with their babies and their hands free at the same time. The baby carrier, which was called "Hjärtenära", was tested with great success on the Jakobson family’s fourth child.
Since then, tens of millions of babies have been carried close to their parents during the first important months of their lives. And over the years we have never stopped working to improve our baby carriers, always in close collaboration with medical experts and the parents of small children. This has resulted in the unique design that makes today’s models so comfortable and easy to use, with clean, classic lines.
In 1933, the company Holle was established as a manufacturer of organic baby food products. Since the beginning, all chemical and production preservatives have been removed without compromise. Holle is based on the Swiss - German border. For the last 35 years, Holle Baby Food has been sold throughout Switzerland and Europe (in health food shops, pharmacies, and organic retailers). The production of infant milk formula and grain products takes place in Germany. Our production areas follow the newest technology, demands and certification (ISO). These standards are implemented in the preparation of the formula and in the cereal meals containing grain that originates mainly from German organic farms (certified organics), all of which are run by farmers who are organically and biologically certified (Demeter). The grain is grown from rich, pesticide-free and herbicide-free soil that has been nourished and prepared organically. Only a few ingredients we have to purchase from farmers in Italy (rice) and Hungary (millet).
To benefit your child, they only choose carefully selected Demeter grain from organic farmers with whom they have had a close working relationship for many years.
The full cream milk used for infant formula originally comes from Southern Germany. In their jar food selection they use specific organic vegetables, fruit and meat from organic or Demeter farms. The resulting product is one of naturally grown ingredients being especially beneficial for infants and small children.
It was 1996, a spring day in Pretoria, and grandfather Johan Buitendach was on baby-sitting duty for 7-week-old grandson Daniell. Little Daniëll was a curious child and wanted to be able to look around; to engage with his surroundings. But he wasn't yet able to sit upright. So he pulled and tugged on Grandpa's fingers, and Grandpa propped him up with some pillows. A great solution, until little Daniëll tilted to one side. And then, Grandpa Johan - an inventor and toolmaker – had a brainwave.
Using a large piece of polystyrene, Johan crafted a freestanding seat with a circular design, featuring leg mouldings, a gently rounded crotch bar, a backrest and side handles. This seat, placed on the floor, made it possible for Daniëll to sit perfectly upright, with no risk of falling over or tipping out. The Bumbo Baby Seat was born.
The Bumbo seat is an award-winning chair aimed specifically at babies and young children when they are learning to sit up. The Bumbo baby seat becomes ideal for babies as soon as they are able to support their own head, and will keep them safe and secure while they learn to sit upright on their own.
The unique design of the Bumbo seat helps keep the baby upright without being strapped in – so babies are much more comfortable and don’t have the restrictions of other baby seats – while being kept secure at the same time. It is made of a soft but durable material, which is easy to clean, and is moulded to support the body in the right places.
The Bumbo Baby Seat is a revolutionary product that keeps your baby safe and supported while they are learning to sit upright. The Baby Seat is best introduced to babies as soon as they are able to support their own head. The seat's design ensures they are kept still, and the baby's own body weight combines with the shape of the seat to keep the baby upright. Bumbo PlayTray is the perfect addition to your Bumbo Seat. It neatly clips on to the front of the seat to form a handy table - great for playing games, drawing and especially for feeding time. The Bumbo PlayTray is made of a durable, easy to clean material so it's all too easy to wipe up the drips and splashes of food after eating!

In 2006 tommee tippee® revolutionised the baby feeding market with the launch of their Closer to Nature® range – at the heart of which is a teat that is so breast-like in shape, flex, stretch and feel, that baby can switch from breast to bottle, and crucially back again, with no fuss or problems. In the three years since Closer to Nature® was launched, thousands of mums have told that they have been able to keep on breastfeeding long after they might otherwise have given up, because of the ease with which they can switch from breast to bottle and back again.
The latest innovation in 2009 for tommee tippee® is the introduction of new Closer to Nature bottles made of a new polypropylene material, which is completely free from the chemical known as BPA. This launch is designed to reassure parents that combining breast and bottle feeding has never been easier or more natural than when using new Closer to Nature®. To mark the launch of the new BPA free range, Closer to Nature® packaging will also get a brilliant new look - in silver & dark grey with a new tommee tippee ‘star’ logo, which is also embossed on the bottles.
